접속사 whether / if
|
- ‘~인지 아닌지’라는 뜻의 명사절을 이끈다.
- 「whether[if] + 주어 + 동사」의 형태로 나타낸다.
• I'm wondering whether[if] this book is yours.
• 나는 이 책이 네 것인지 궁금하다.
- 의문사가 없는 직접의문문이 다른 문장에서 동사의 목적어 역할을 하는 간접의문문이 될 수 있다.
- 의문사가 없는 직접의문문이 간접의문문이 될 때 접속사 whether나 if로 시작하는 명사절이 된다.
- 「whether[if] + 주어 + 동사」의 형태로 나타낸다.
- 의문사가 없는 직접의문문을 간접의문문으로 바꿀 때 인칭과 시제를 일치시킨다.

- 접속사 whether가 이끄는 명사절은 문장의 주어, 목적어, 보어로 쓸 수 있다.
• Whether the experiment succeeded is important to me. (주어)
• 그 실험이 성공했는지가 나에게 중요하다.
• I doubt whether this machine will work. (목적어)
• 나는 이 기계가 작동할지 의심스럽다.
• The question is whether the patient will be recovered. (보어)
• 문제는 그 환자가 회복될지 여부이다.
- 접속사 whether가 이끄는 명사절은 전치사의 목적어로 쓸 수 있다.

- 접속사 whether 바로 다음에는 to부정사가 올 수 있다.

- 접속사 if가 이끄는 명사절은 문장의 목적어로만 쓸 수 있다.

• Whether the actor will come to Korea is not certain. (주어 - O)
• 그 배우가 한국에 올 것인지 분명하지 않다.

• 관건은 이에 대한 책임이 시장에게 있는지 여부이다.

- 접속사 if가 이끄는 명사절은 전치사의 목적어로 쓸 수 없다.
